Split-Screen Titles (Various Possibilities) Split-screen isn’t dead my friends! Games like Borderlands, Crawl, and various other titles on PS4 have showed us that at least some developers still care about local cooperative or versus-style experiences. With the PS5, we’ll most likely see split-screen experiences, or perhap hybrid options that include VR, but local multiplayer will hopefully remain a part of the gaming landscape in some form or another. 2. Jackbox Party Pack The Jackbox Party Pack, when it first released, was an interesting little experiment. The ideas was that you could play multiplayer trivia and party games with friends by using smartphones instead of controllers to enter their answers. It was such a simple idea, but the concept worked really well and the games included in the pack were really fun. They’re up to Jackbox Party Pack 3, with a fourth on the way. I’m thinking we’ll see this one on the PS5. 3. Just Dance Ubisoft’s Just Dance series has been hitting consoles every year, and while it may burn out soon, the concept of a dancing game won’t be going anywhere. So, whether it’s rebranded or rebooted, Just Dance is something we’ll probably see on the PS5. 4. Music Games (Rock Band, Guitar Hero) Music games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero had their moment in the limelight, but then they faded. They made a brief resurgence on PS4 with Rock Band 4 and Guitar Hero Live, but could they make a comeback? This is a tough one, but these games worked really well when they were in their prime. Even realistic titles like Rocksmith offered a lot for beginning guitar players. Maybe there’s a happy balance, or perhaps there’s a big new idea in the works, but something tells me we haven’t seen the last of these games.
