Sony is Planning on Surpassing Stadia’s 10.7 Teraflops With PS5

Google’s Stadia announcement came with some impressive specs. Each of their Stadia servers boasted a whopping 10.7 teraflops of power, with the ability to scale upward if games needed more hardware. This all leads to the question of where the PS5 will fall in terms of computing power. Well, according to Jason Schreier, the editor over at Kotaku, Sony and Microsoft are aiming for even more power than this in the new systems. Let’s see what he had to say! Kotaku Editor Offers New Insight into PS5’s Specs Jason Schreier has long been known for breaking some of the biggest stores in gaming over at Kotaku. Not only that, but he also has some amazing sources that are right more often than they’re wrong. As a result, when he says something, it’s generally accepted as truth. With that in mind, check out this post he made on ResetEra: A few takeaways here: for starters we once again have confirmation that PS5 is coming in 2020, as we’ve predicted. What’s also interesting is how very few people have been briefed on next generation consoles. Could it be that they’re afraid of leaks, or are we looking at a late 2020 release? We believe the release date will fall in November of 2020, but current predictions point to news about this sometime in 2019. The line that we’re all here for is this one: “The only thing I know for sure is that both Sony and Microsoft are aiming higher than that ‘10.7 teraflops’ number that Google threw out last week.” How much higher are we talking? It’s hard to say, but coming in higher than Stadia would be a smart move on Sony’s part. After the Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro debacle, it would also be nice to see Sony crush Microsoft’s specs. A YouTuber by the name of Foxy Games UK also reported their own rumored specs. They were able to correctly predict the PS4 Pro specs in 2016, so it’s possible there is some validity to this rumor, but as always, take it with a grain of salt. They are reporting a raw compute power of 11.6 teraflops, and a Zen 2 CPU clocked at 3.3 GHz. It would certainly be above Stadia’s offerings, but you should check out the video yourself and see if you believe these claims. That being said, we’ve also heard that Microsoft is releasing two consoles: Lockhart and Anaconda, with one version being more powerful than the other. Will Sony go for a base and pro model of the PS5? It’s possible, but only time will tell. How many teraflops do you think Sony should aim for in the PS5? Give us your spec suggestions in the comments! The State of Play March 2019: Highlights and Predictions

For some time now, Nintendo has been hosting live streams called “Nintendo Directs” that they’ve used to make announcements instead of attending E3. Now that Sony has also dropped out of E3, they too have adopted a new streaming series called “The State of Play.” The first episode debuted in March of 2019 and we have all the highlights for you right here. More importantly, could Sony use this format to tease or announce the PS5? Let’s discuss! 7 Big Moments From The State of Play March 2019 The format for this stream was very similar to Nintendo’s way of doing things. The footage was all pre-recorded, with a narrator walking us through all the major announcements. Here are the big takeaways: Iron Man VR Announced The stream opened strong with a CGI trailer for an Iron Man VR game! The title is developed by Camoflaj, who were also responsible for Republique. It’s an interesting move, but apparently Marvel is also involved in the project, so the quality will have to meet their standards. In either case, it’s a great moment for VR to capture such a high profile brand. No Man’s Sky Gets a FREE VR Update No Man’s Sky in VR is one of those things that sounds amazing, but I don’t think anybody really expected it to happen. Well, put that down as another victory for VR, because No Man’s Sky will support the headset as part of the free Beyond update coming this summer. No Man’s Sky may have gotten flak when it first came out, but the title has been updated countless times with amazing improvements and content, all of which is absolutely free. Blood & Truth Coming 5/28/19 The London Heist demo on PSVR Worlds was one of the most impressive uses of PSVR when it first launched. Since then the studio has been working on a full game entitled Blood & Truth. Well, now we know that game is coming May 28th! It looks stunning, and it could be a new killer app for PSVR. Observation, a Sci-Fi Thriller, Coming 5/21/19 This surprise announcement from Devolver Digital looks to be a really interesting twist on the science fiction genre. Set in space aboard a massive station, you don’t play as one of the characters, but are in fact the station itself! It seems like you’ll control cameras and aspects of the station itself to aid the characters in a time of crisis. It’s really unique and coming out in May as well! Five Nights at Freddy’s VR Coming Spring 2019 Noticing a theme here? Yet another PSVR title came next in the form of the famous Five Nights at Freddy’s. This VR version of the game will take levels from throughout the series and pair them with new content for what will most likely be the VR game that gives me a heart attack. Google Announces Stadia, a Next Generation Gaming Platform to Compete With The PS5

The flames of the console wars were lit once again in March of 2019 during a Google event in San Francisco. As part of the Game Developers Conference, the tech giant revealed Stadia, a streaming platform with its eyes set on competing with Sony, Microsoft, and PC gaming. We’ve heard rumblings of this in the past years, along with a test of the concept using Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but now that the cat’s out of the bag, it’s time to see if this new platform could really go toe-to-toe with the PS5. 7 Highlights From The Google Stadia Announcement We all knew that Google was working on something gaming related, ever since the rumors about something codenamed Yeti emerged in early 2018. Their test of the technology, entitled Project Stream, went fairly well with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but it wasn’t until March 2019 that we would hear about the final concept. The final name is Stadia, a fully streaming platform that promises to provide quality experiences streamed directly to your phone, tablet, laptop, or TV. Google is creating a controller for the experience, but in many cases it won’t be required. There’s a lot to break down from the announcement, so let’s dive in and check it out! 1. No Hardware Required You won’t be bringing home a console when Stadia launches sometime in 2019. In fact, the most you can buy from a hardware perspective is a controller and a Chromecast if you’re on a TV. The controller itself is pretty standard fare, but it does feature a Google Assistant button that allow you to request YouTube walkthroughs should you find yourself stuck in a game, and a share button that we’ll cover shortly. Everything is streamed to your devices from Google’s servers, of which there are many. They argue that these endpoints will ensure the experience is smooth for anyone, but internet speed wasn’t addressed in today’s conference. The idea of a “Netflix for games” is in full swing here. Could you imagine never buying a disc or waiting on a download? Google promises instant access to titles, with only five seconds to wait before you’re in the game. I myself couldn’t see switching to this kind of format entirely, I love my consoles too much, but if the idea works as well as they say, it would be quite interesting to experience. 2. The Creation of Stadia Games & Entertainment We saw a few familiar faces during Google Stadia announcement, including Phil Harrison who used to work for both Sony and Microsoft. He introduced the head of Stadia Games & Entertainment, which is Google’s studio for exclusives and first-party titles. Her name? Jade Raymond, known for creating the Assassin’s Creed franchise during her time at Ubisoft. Having access to first-party titles could be a game-changer if Google brings us top quality experiences you can’t find anywhere else. They also confirmed that Doom Eternal would be available on the service, running at 4K and 60FPS, so it seems … Read More
