While the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing, production has largely resumed in the eastern parts of the world. As a result, Sony may be less concerned about stock issues for the PS5 launch this holiday season. According to a report from Nikkei Asian Review, both Sony and Facebook are ramping up the output of their gaming devices this year. This means that the PS5 production would go from around 5 million units in production, to 9 million units. Let’s dive deeper into this report and see what it means for the inevitable PS5 Preorders. More PS5 Consoles at Launch? Yes Please! There has been a noticeable increase in demand for gaming devices and software since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. This surge is due to lockdowns, and if you’re anything like me, because you need a distraction. Sony is looking at this as a sign that they should have more consoles available at launch to avoid long lines of people who probably aren’t social distancing. Of course, these orders could change as we move forward, and it’s not certain whether the extra units will be ready in time for launch. Some stock may not arrive on shelves until the beginning of 2021. While Sony declined to comment on the report, the source here is a reputable one. I would argue that they are indeed shooting for more consoles at launch, if only to prevent a lack of supply to meet demand. What do you think? Will the increased PS5 production make it easy to find at launch, or will preorders sell out? Let us know in the comments! Article by – Bradley Ramsey Insert date – 7/15/2020

PS5 News Roundup For July 3rd: Game Prices Going up, PS5 is a ‘Masterpiece’, and New Details Coming Very Soon!
PS5 news is coming faster than ever! Before the holiday weekend here in the U.S., we wanted to recap some of the big stories from this week, and there are several! Epic Games Calls The PS5 a ‘Masterpiece of Systems Design’ Our first story comes from The Game Post who reported on an interview between Official PlayStation Magazine and the VP of engineering at Epic Games, Nick Penwarden. In the interview, Penwarden expanded on this claim about the PS5: “The PlayStation 5 is a masterpiece of systems design. Not only is it driving huge leap in computing and graphics performance, but it is also revolutionary in terms of storage and data compression technology, unlocking new kinds of games and experiences for players to enjoy.” Talk about an endorsement! New Listing for NBA 2K21 shows a Price Hike For Next-Gen Games Next up, we’ve got an interesting story after 2K Sports announced new versions of its NBA 2K series. The current generation versions cost $59.99, but the next generation costs $69.99. Could this mean that games will be $10 more in the next-gen? Push Square reached out to 2K Sports for clarification and got this in response: “2K’s suggested retail prices for its games are meant to represent the value being offered,” an NBA 2K spokesperson said. “With nearly endless replay value and many new additions and improvements only possible on next-generation consoles, we believe our updated suggested retail price fairly represents the value of NBA 2K21.” Okay, so it doesn’t seem like the standard version costs any more for any reason beyond it being next-gen. While other publishers may not make the same move, I personally wouldn’t mind a small price increase. Games take a long time to make and cost more than ever. It’s only fair that the price change at some point. Speaking with GamesBeat earlier this week, former Sony executive Shawn Layden agreed with this, saying: “It’s been $59.99 since I started in this business, but the cost of games have gone up ten times. If you don’t have elasticity on the price-point, but you have huge volatility in on the cost line, the model becomes more difficult. I think this generation is going to see who two imperatives collide.” This plays into a larger discussion around the length of games, and whether it makes sense to make them shorter to keep costs in check. That’s a discussion for another time, but if they need to go up $10, I don’t mind. PS5 Price and Release Date Reveal Happening July 13th? We save the best for last! Now that we know more about the PS5 after the June reveal, it’s time for price, release date, and preorders. Turns out, we may not have to wait long. In this thread, one tweet stands out: July 13 > #PS5 price, release date and pre-order TBC — Roberto Serrano’ (@geronimo_73) July 1, 2020 Roberto claims to have industry sources to back up this claim, but the rumor is a little … Read More
Happy 4th of July! Here’s a guide to help you find some game to play this weekend!
Independence Day is once again upon us in the USA. With everything happening across the US and not to mention the world, things might be celebrated a little differently. It all depends on where you are and what you’re willing to do at this point. Whether you plan to go out and party or stay home and be socially distant, there’s bound to be games to play. While I’ve created a list of recommendations, they don’t necessarily represent the 4th of July, I thought it might be fun to list some games I would recommend playing this weekend. Ready? Here we go! 1 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare This tops the list because of the military style shooter that it is, but this isn’t actually compiled to be what’s a choice. This was just the first game that popped in my head. While loved worldwide, it surely feels as American as any game franchise I can think of. Whether you’re playing the campaign, multiplayer, spec ops or the free to play Warzone, you’re sure to find some enjoyment playing this if you’re a fan of CoD. It’s also a triple 2xp weekend, so you can level up quickly. 2 – The Last Of US Part 2 While no game is ever everyone’s cup of tea, The Last Of Part 2 does appeal to many. Be it a trophy hunter or casual player, this game is in a way, a must play in order for you to decide whether or not it was worth your time. Some people loved it and some hated it. Me, I liked it, but didn’t love it. It was still well worth my time and with a long holiday weekend at hand, this could be a great choice for anyone curious about the game or even to go back and play through one more time for the heck of it. 3 – Grand Theft Auto V Playing GTAV is a great american pastime for sure. I mean, the real world has rules and GTAV has rules, but in GTAV, you can break all the rules and the consequences won’t harm you in real life. Honestly, I’ve stolen a few cars in my day when I was a misguided young man and stealing a car in GTA was a lot more fun. Take that how you will, but I highly recommend breaking video games rules/laws over attempting real life heists and crimes. 4 – Resident Evil 3 remake If you have never had the experience of playing Resident Evil 3, there is really no better time to jump into it. After a successful release of the RE2 remake (remaster?), it was no sunrise that part 3 would make its way to the shelves. Nothing says America like trying to stop a zombie apocalypse or at least trying to escape from one. Not because the USA is full of zombies (or is it?), but because the US is obviously obsessed with them. Let’s … Read More
Sony Teases New PS5 Dashboard: ‘No Pixel Untouched’
While I know it looks a lot different than we’re used to, I personally love the PS5 design. The sleek look, the use of color, the way it matches the controller, I love all of it. Another thing I think we all noticed during the PS5 reveal was the teaser of the new dashboard. It was a sleek looking home screen with some pleasing music. It seems this is another element Sony is hoping to really revamp. New Information on The System OS, Straight From The Source While it seems to have disappeared from LinkedIn, The Verge reported on a LinkedIn thread where Sony’s VP of UX design at PlayStation, Matt MacLaurin, said the new operating system is a “100 percent overhaul of the PS4 UI and some very different new concepts.” He shares more details, saying: As it’s UI, it’s practical first, but it’s a whole new visual language and a complete rearchitecturing of the user interface. It’s more subtle than flashy, but no pixel is untouched.” For those wondering what teaser we’re talking about, check it out below: Sony’s small PS5 UI teaser there pic.twitter.com/D7m6SrVfCk — Tom Warren (@tomwarren) June 11, 2020 MacLaurin also went on to talk about custom hardware designs for the PS5. We’ve seen plenty of the mock-ups others have done (which look amazing), so what can we expect here? He said that a black version is a “maybe,” but also said there will be a special edition for everyone. All I can say is bring it on! Cannot wait to see what else Sony has to reveal. What do you think of the PS5 design? Would you want a custom system? Let us know in the comments!

Developers Call PS5 Architecture ‘Better Than Any Console in History’
It has been said plenty of times in the past, but it’s worth repeating that console power is not everything. The architecture, flexibility, ease of development, and overall design are huge factors. Say what you will about Mark Cerny and his obsession with your ears, but the man knows how to design a console. Simply look at his resume, which includes designing the PS4. Now, it seems, developers are really getting excited about what he did with the PS5. Developers Love The PS5’s Architecture Thanks to some new information from Jeff Grubb over on VentureBeat, we’ve learned that developers have been saying that PS5 has a better architecture “than any console in history.” Not only does that make it easy to develop for, but it also helps developers get the most out of the hardware without excessive difficulty or needing to make sacrifices elsewhere. Jeff Grubb mirrored this sentiment on his personal Twitter as well: This is true. Lots of fawning over the work Cerny did. I think part of this is that PS5 dev kits got out earlier, and Cerny did a lot of work highlighting the efforts. But still, devs seem gaga for it. https://t.co/2xFp5vHpJy — Jeff Grubb (@JeffGrubb) May 31, 2020 This doesn’t necessarily mean that third-party games will be significantly better on PS5 versus Xbox Series X, but it could result in some noticeable things, like how many games this generation hit 1080p natively on PS4, but only 900p on Xbox One. Personally, I like to game on a big screen TV, so small differences like this will be noticeable. Ultimately, it just means that more developers will want to make games on PS5, exclusive or otherwise. In the end, that’s a win for me. What do you think? How big of a difference could a superior architecture make in the next generation? Let us know in the comments! Article by – Bradley Ramsey Insert date – 6/4/2020
