Call of Duty Vanguard Review: Part One

Welcome to part one of the Call of Duty Vanguard review here at PS5 Gamers! I’m breaking this down to three parts because each mode is a separate experience and some are clearly better than others.    We’re going to start with the worst of the game modes. In my opinion, that would be zombies. I usually compare my Call of Duty reviews to the last 2 titles that have been released, but this has got to be the worst zombies experience in CoD history.    It’s hard for me to believe this game was in development for 4 years. I have sunk a lot of hours into zombies for this review and I’m gonna straight up day it sucks! I play with friends, I play with ransoms and solo matches to boot, but it isn’t satisfying to me and many other players I have spoken with about it are in agreement with me.    The graphics aren’t that great. The other two modes seem to look a little smoother and polished. I feel like zombies mode was a last minute toss in that has a less than stellar storyline. Zombies aren’t difficult to handle. They seem as dumbed downed as ever and I don’t expect my zombies to be smart, but this is just lame. A lot of times the zombies would start chasing me and then bump into each other and seem to get stuck in place.    While that makes for some easy multi kills and easy points, it takes a lot of the thrill away from rounding up a large group and fighting them fairly. Moreover, even without them glitching together, the zombies are too slow and simple. Sure, reaching high level rounds makes them more aggressive, but damn it all, the mode is boring.    The controls are fine and I didn’t notice much clunkiness, so I can’t complain about that.    The graphics just look like trash to me. This game mode would look amazing on my PS3 back in the day and that’s pretty sad and a little frustrating. I don’t think sledgehammer makes that great of games anyway. They’ve always been ok, but nothing more than that.    Audio is pretty good, so there’s little to discuss there. It’s crisp and I can hear the zombies and other sound effects very well. Keep in mind I’m using the PS5 headset with 3D audio, so it’s definitely a lot better than standard tv speakers.   While the story is a prequel to the zombies from Black Ops Cold War, which was a decent experience, this one just stinks and it feels unoriginal. Maybe it’s unoriginal to me because it’s a prequel, but there wasn’t much effort put into this one. I don’t write video game scripts, but I could have done a better job than the writers did with this one.    I probably won’t play anymore zombies unless a buddy begs me to help them through the higher rounds, but they’re really … Read More

Aliens Fireteam Elite Review?

Some of you have been wondering where our Aliens Fireteam Elite review is. I’m here to clear that up for you. It just wasn’t good enough to bother publishing a review. No, it’s not a 1 out of 10 title, but it is closer to a 4 out of 10. It feels and looks unoriginal and doesn’t come close to providing a long run experience before it becomes repetitive.  Graphics are bottom barrel and controls aren’t that tight. Sure, it costs less than your typical triple A title, but even a lower cost can’t justify paying full price. No matter the price (even if it was free), it would still be a disappointing third person shooter that would be better as a poster and not much more.  Granted, that’s my opinion and not all of us will agree, but that’s my stance. 4 out of 10 and even that’s giving it too high of a score for my taste. What did you think of the Aliens Fireteam? Were you lucky enough to pass or did you play? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

battlefield 2042 beta impressions

The Battlefield 2042 open beta is live (early access for us preorders) and man oh man, is this really a beta? People are hyped and very well should be! This game is going to be amazing and it’s about friggin time!    Most hardcore Battlefield fans will you there hasn’t been a good battlefield game since BF4. I hear it all the time and I get that hardcore fan mindset. Personally, I’ve managed to take away a good feeling from most of the titles, but these hardcore fans aren’t wrong. Not a lot has been going on with the BF series the last few drops and while those are fun, it’s short lived for a lot of us. It gets old quickly as they say.    Set aside dissatisfaction with prior titles and get your hopes up for the latest title! Yes, I said get your hopes up because I’m telling you now, this game is not going to disappoint. (I say that, but I could be eating those words in November). Alright, enough of the hyping. Let’s get into what is making this beta so good right now.    I’m going to start off with graphics this time. Keep in mind I’m playing on my PS5, so last gen owners might not be seeing what I am, it is what it is. Sorry. Anyhow, playing through the beta has had me looking around the map, looking at the quality of the weapon and soldier art designs and I have to say, I’d be satisfied if these were the final graphics we received in the game, but the game is going to get some polish and really shine when it drops. There’s a lot of attention to detail and the lighting is damn near perfect for this game.   The controls are super responsive which is obviously important for a first person shooter, but it’s important for any game in my opinion and probably yours too. That being said, the controls being this responsive is more noticeable to me than they were in Battlefield 5. I felt like they were a little loose with a slight delay. BF2042 feels much more responsive when I go to aim down sights or switch over weapons. It really is smooth for a beta.    Time to kill seems to be the same as with any other BF title. I’ve mainly played conquest, so if there is a different TTK in other modes, I’m unaware. Sorry, but conquest is where I shine. Anyway, I will say I have a slight problem with helicopters. On one hand, they’re awesome to control and lots of fun, on the other hand, I feel like they’re super OP. Yes, the chopper should feel superior, but man, that thing has a sting worse than a bee. Most likely, we will see some type of nerf there.    All in all, the Battlefield 2042 beta has been a great hands on experience. Sorry to say, it won’t be the game … Read More

DeathLoop Review

DeathLoop is a masterpiece that should be played by anyone that has even the smallest interest. Playing through DeathLoop only saddens me further when I think about Microsoft buying Bethesda, but at least we got to play DeathLoop.    Ok, enough of the sappy and more of the happy, right? Right!    DeathLoop is a fun first person shooter that dives deep into the concept of time. It’s complicated in ways and can be confusing at times. It can drag on a little of the repetitive side, but for me at least, there is little to complain about.    I have heard a lot of players complaining about how they had to try and keep up with unfolding the storyline through side missions and the main game and I kind of surprised anyone would think this is something to complain about. A lot of games use side missions to expand the game and offer more options to the player. You don’t have to play all the side missions to understand the story. Playing them just gives you a better understanding of the story on top of it.   To sum it up, the story is really good. Well written and mind boggling at times. I would love to meet the minds behind the storyline because there was a lot of creativity with this one. I can respect that the storyline isn’t for everyone, but I think if someone wasn’t interested in a sci-fi story type about time and assassins and borderline rewind and try again scenarios, they probably wouldn’t pick up the game. That being said, it’s a good story… Let’s just leave it at that.    Gameplay mechanics are responsive and not complicated to learn. This isn’t really a surprise because most games have tight responsive controls, it’s still important to mention. If the mechanics were not so up to par, I’d have to mention that too. Just sayin.   Graphics… boy oh boy are the graphics something to whistle about. Now I know that if someone has a nice PC rig, they’re gonna find a way to mention it because they can’t help themselves, but this is about the PS5 and this machine can deliver quite the experience. DeathLoop is gorgeous on a million levels. Well, that’s an exaggeration, but it is beautiful to say the least. It really does take talent to put something like that together.    Without spoiling the story, you are an assassin that is being antagonized by another assassin. You’re out to eliminate your enemies, while surviving everything in between. You will have to use your thinking cap to get ahead of the game (no pun intended) and solve a lot of puzzles to get there. Don’t worry though, you’ll be in a “death loop” that allows you to learn from your mistakes. It’s sci-fi fun with a lot of twists and I highly recommend anyone with a PS5 to try this game, unless of course you just don’t like First Person Shooters.  … Read More

Vanguard: First Impressions

Those of us on PlayStation consoles got a chance to play the Call Of Duty Vanguard alpha over the weekend and while it didn’t offer much selection (it was only an alpha after all), it did give us a birds eye view into what we could expect in November.   There are mixed feelings from a lot of players out there and I am no exception. I am not concerned with the graphics of the game. A lot of polishing and some bug fixes isn’t going to change a lot of minds on this one. I’m talking about the advanced weapons in a WWII game. Red dots and holographic sites that are way too advanced for this title.    Part of me doesn’t care. I don’t really play cod for its “realism” as much as I play it for what’s not real. It is a video game after all. But what about the players that want to play something true to it’s time? Vanguard is a made up story and we know that, but some folks want the game to be accurate in regards to weaponry. I’ve listened to their arguments and they have some valid points to make based upon their own personal feelings. While I can see where they’re coming from, it won’t change a thing.    It is to my understanding that the weapons are advanced in order for them to be usable in Warzone, although I can’t really see that being the case. If the weapons needed to be advanced for Warzone, they could add the attachments into the game separately from Vanguard. I’m no programmer, but I feel like that would be the solution, wouldn’t it? They could integrate both titles without sacrificing one for the other, right? Let me know your thoughts on that, because I am curious about what you think. Maybe I’m giving too much credit to developers? I dunno.    Anyway, advanced weaponry aside, we played Champion Hill and it was alright. 2v2 and 3v3 isn’t really my thing. I like larger player counts, but my bias didn’t affect my judgement. I thought they had some cool ideas for what I played. Picking up cash on the ground and hitting the right D-pad button to upgrade my guns was interesting. No building my own loadouts. They gave me what they wanted and I had to work with it. Between rounds we could purchase armor plates, different weapons and support items, etc. It didn’t feel like a call of duty lobby to say the least and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.    Playing the alpha doesn’t tell me enough about the game on whether or not I should get excited for it. I have a habit of getting excited for CoD and being disappointed after release. Hopefully Vanguard turns out to be something really special, because the Cold War (IMO) was lackluster and missed the mark by a long shot.    Are you excited for Call of Duty Vanguard? Let me … Read More

Call of Duty Vanguard Reveal: our impressions

I’m going to start off by saying that if Activision allowed their developers to put as much effort into the actual games as they do the presentations, they would have the greatest games of all time. The reveal for Call of Duty Vanguard is no exception. If only the hype was truly real after release. Anyway, let’s move onto some of the tidbits we’ve learned.    For starters, Activision’s name wasn’t announced during the reveal. If you’re wondering why, we’re pretty sure it’s because Activision has been in some hot water lately and they don’t want the name to burden the hype of the title. It literally opened with “Call of Duty Presents.” Since when is call of duty presenting anything? Lol. That’s fine, Activision. Just keep burying your heads as deep as possible and hope your troubles will go away. They won’t, but keep hoping.    Moving on, we have learned a little bit about what’s to come. Things like reactive rooms. When I say reactive room, I mean that everything in the buildings are supposed to respond to soldiers running through, grenades going off or gun fire shredding through furniture. It’s all supposed to react like it would in real life. At least that is what I am understanding of it.   Throwing a little frustration out there along with some good news, a new anti-cheat system is being deployed into Vanguard and Warzone when the game releases on November 5th. What’s nice is that this new anti-cheat system is focused on PCs and it should improve a lot of crossplay issues we’ve had in the WZ. What’s frustrating is that we will have to continue to deal with an abundance of cheating until then. Of course cheaters will always find another way around, but hopefully we’ll get a few good months of minimal BS.   There is going to be an open beta for everyone to play before the game releases, but if you preorder the game you will get early access to the open beta. You’ll also get a few extra goodies if you preorder a digital version straight to the console. Don’t forget that if you want in on the early access part of the beta, you can always preorder a physical version from a retailer like Amazon, and then cancel your order if you don’t want the game or you decide to go digital.    Zombies will also be joining the game this November. Treyarch will take care of the zombie development and it will be a prologue to the zombies that are currently in Black Ops Cold War. There are a lot of hard core zombie fans that aren’t interested in anything unless it was brought to them by treyarch in the first place and this doesn’t take developers sways from the base game or MP aspects, so this could be a really good move.    The game will be taking up around 100 gigs of hard drive space. Maybe a little less, … Read More

Warzone Season 5 review

Another season has dropped for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone and I like to drop my thoughts on the Warzone aspect of things. Without further ado, let’s get straight to it!    Now that season 5 has dropped, there’s really only one thing I’m excited for in Warzone at the moment. The world reveal of WWII: Vanguard! If you log into Warzone tomorrow (August 19th) at 10:30 am Pacific time/1:30 pm Eastern, you’ll be there to watch the world reveal of not only the next call of duty, but an idea of what’s also coming to Warzone.    We saw the leaks a while back and have all pretty much accepted that the next cod is infact a WWII game so, there’s really no surprise there. It’s all about what’s going to happen tomorrow! I personally feel like it has been too long for a new map. I don’t consider the reskin of Verdansk to be a new map by any means. WWII: Vanguard will surely give us a completely new map to play on and I sure hope they announce a plan to give us updated maps often, but I’m not holding my breath.   WWII: Vanguard aside, let’s talk about the current season and situation in Warzone. Along with a new battle pass loaded with the usual goodies, there have been some major weapon balances to the game. At least according to the patch notes. I can’t honestly say I see a difference in any of the weapons I’ve always played with, so you tell me if it has affected your game play.    At this point with the game, we don’t really see much of anything, but sprinkles of changes to the map and what’s available on ground, but you know what we haven’t really seen at all? Numbers of cheaters dwindling down… I know a lot of people like to assume that anyone that takes them down is a hacker, but there is a problem with cheating in this game and it’s plagued like no other MP game out there.    I have been watching streams and personally experiencing cheaters more and more online. I am sick of it. Gone are the days where I could rack up high kill counts and wins in traditional BR. I end up with cheaters on my team, cheaters in the enemy teams and it’s just gotten ridiculous. I know the difference between an aimbot mod and someone that legitimately took me down. I was just playing a little while ago and was killed just before the gulag closed. I spectated my killer and sure enough, this guy 40+ kills, wasn’t even trying to hide the fact he was cheating. Or she for that matter. I couldn’t honestly say, but anywho.    This player would be sprinting and just suddenly turn in the opposite direction, start firing and was killing people they couldn’t even see. I watched them finish the match with a bunch of other spectators that all … Read More

Back 4 Blood open beta, Death loop has gone gold and more in this weeks drop!

It’s been a pretty good week for gaming news and it’s about that time we look back at some of the highlights. On top of the news recap this weekend, keep your eyes out for my impressions of Back 4 Blood as well as live-streaming the same title this week. Without further ado, let’s get to the news!    Back 4 Blood is currently in an open beta stage for everyone to try. Not gonna say too much about the title just yet, but I will say it has more elements than I expected, so that’s a good sign for what’s in the full game. I have found it to be quite fun so far, but not without its share of issues.  I can’t wait to learn more and give you my first impressions next week. Fear not, it opens to everyone, not just preorders, so we’re clear.    Another game I am excited for this month as should most PlayStation owners, is Ghost of Tsushima. With the big update on its way that adds an extension to the game, a multiplayer variant and for a few extra dollars you get a PS5 upgrade, it’s almost time for me to hop back on and revisit the game.    Someone listed a couple of PS5 developer kits on eBay the other day. The bidding reached over $3000 USD before the listing was taken down by eBay without explanation. We’re guessing that Sony got involved and had the listing removed, but without an official statement from either eBay or Sony, there is no way to confirm Sony’s involvement. Personally, if I was in the market for a PS5, I wouldn’t be interested in buying a dev kit. It might have some collector’s value down the road, but it’s still a hard pass for me. Would you buy one?    In other news, Sony has seen a decline in PlayStation plus subscribers, but the company isn’t worried about it as the PlayStation brand continues to be the biggest money maker for Sony right now. Which really makes me wounded where Sony would be right now if they had passed on the console business. It is my understanding that PlayStation is the company’s flagship right now, so it is quite possible that Sony could have gone bankrupt had it not gotten into gaming. Interesting thought to mull over. What do you think would have happened?    Deathloop has gone gold! PS5’s timed exclusive that was originally planned to release back in May of this year, has finally been completed and is ready for gamers to play. Unfortunately for me and other Gamers that can’t wait to play this game, going gold now doesn’t move the release date any closer. September 14th, it is! Microsoft now owns the developer and publisher behind Deathloop, but prior to MS making the purchase of Zenimax and everything under its umbrella, the deal had already been struck with Sony and the companies had to follow through with the terms. … Read More

Dead Space Remake, online gaming outage and more in this weeks drop!

Welcome back to another gaming new update here at PS5 Gamers. The Non-E3 EA event has passed us by and it was a decent showing. We got a little extra news on some of the upcoming titles we were expecting. PSN, Xbox Live and Steam went down yesterday for a short stint and more! Let’s get to it!    We got confirmation that Dead Space is getting a remake from the ground up and it is exclusive to current Gen consoles. I know some folks feel like the PS4 and Xbox One X/S are still current, but alas, they are last Gen consoles now. Sorry. The good news for current gen console owners is a Dead Space Remake. Personally, I cannot wait!    During the show at EA Play, it was also announced that Battlefield 2024 is getting a sandbox mode called Battlefield Portal. Players will be able to custom build their own Battlefield experience. Moreover, players can upload their creations for others to try out. It seems like something we could have had in past titles, but now works for me. Lots more seems to be coming to Battlefield 2024, so I for one am pretty excited to see how the actual hands-on game turns out.    Did you run into some issues getting online yesterday? Well, you weren’t alone. For whatever reason, the internet was causing problems for PlayStation, Xbox and Stream gamers alike! At no fault to any of the companies that own the services listed above, the net wasn’t having it. It wasn’t down long and by the time most people heard about the outage, it was already cleared up, but I had to laugh when I started seeing comments on social media about how which service is better because the other was down… well, let’s just say a fool will make a fool of themselves even when there is ample opportunity to avoid it. Good job to those that handled the trolling with a little wit and some kindness sprinkled on top.    Shout out to the soccer fans reading up on this article. Konami has rebranded Pro Evolution Soccer to eFootball and it is fully free to play. eFootball is scheduled to release sometime this fall and will drop on last Gen, current Gen and PC, but not Nintendo. Nintendo is in a market of its own and I don’t think the company cares either. That being said, eFootball is a cross platform title, so you won’t be restricted to the console family you typically play on. You won’t need a subscription service to play online either.    Call of Duty Black Ops and Warzone got mid season updates the other day. Weapon balances, bug fixes, all kinds of good stuff, but Warzone did get a little something extra. A new game mode called Payload, which if I’m being honest here, doesn’t really fit into the CoD franchise in my opinion.    For starters, a lot of people don’t seem to understand how the … Read More

PS5 gets a system update, possible upcoming PlayStation experience and more in last weeks new update today!

A good amount of gaming news has dropped over that last week or so and while I don’t have anything game changing for you today (pun intended), but there will definitely be something big coming later this month from EA and hopefully Sony will give us something more than the State of Plays they have been dropping for us. Without further ado, let’s get to the gaming news drop, shall we?    The PS5 got another firmware update the other day. It doesn’t bring anything heavy hitting to the console, but performance improvements are always a good thing. Here’s a look at the notes:   This system software update improves system performance. We’ve updated the DualSense wireless controller device software to improve stability. We’ve fixed an issue that restricted the functionality of some screens when the screen reader was enabled. We’ve fixed an issue where games that you’ve hidden on PS4 were not hidden on PS5. We’ve made the process of copying games from USB extended storage to console storage in the game library more stable   All useful improvements in the end. Hopefully something big is coming soon.  Thinking august we will get the PlayStation Experience.    In other news, Cyberpunk 2077 is back in the PSN store. The heads over at Projekt CD Red say they are satisfied with how the game plays on last Gen consoles, although I still hear a lot of complaints from players that say the game is in just as bad of shape as it was before. I mean, Sony gave it the greenlight so it must be improved somewhat, but I haven’t played it on last Gen consoles, so I cannot attest to either. Fingers crossed the majority are happy with it.    Ghost of Tsushima directors cut for PS4 and PS5 has a price tag on it that isn’t appeasing fans. If you already own the game on PS4, the upgrade will run you $19.99 USD and the PS5 version will cost 29.99 USD. PS5 owners seem to be the most upset because the upgrade is obviously $10 more. Fans are upset because an upgrade between last and next Gen consoles is usually free, but the extra $10 just for PS5 features does seem kinda shiesty on Sony’s part. I know it’s a business, but that doesn’t mean businesses don’t get petty at times.   Sony hosted another State of Play stream a few days ago. They announced some upcoming games, but it wasn’t even close to the show everyone is hoping will happen soon. I mentioned in the last article that Sony did trademark PlayStation Experience this year which is a sure sign that there is a yet to be announced show coming up. I’m guessing it’ll take place in late August and I would be surprised if the show didn’t take place at all.. State of Play was ok, but does little for those waiting to hear some hard hitting news.    If you’re looking for a bargain on … Read More
